Chief economist with ING in Warsaw named Poland's new finance minister

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has named the chief economist with ING bank in Warsaw as his new finance minister.

38 year old Mateusz Szczurek will take over from Jacek Rostowski who held the post for six years but recently quarrelled with the prime minister.

The government’s popularity is sliding and Tusk is under increasing political pressure to boost economic growth before elections in 2015.

Poland’s economy is doing well compared to its euro zone neighbours but is still close to its weakest in more than a decade.
