Germany’s World Cup ambitions have received a potential blow with the news that Sami Khedira could miss Brazil 2014 due to injury. The Real Madrid midfielder has been ruled out for up to six months.
The 26-year-old tore a cruciate ligament during Germany’s 1-1 draw against Italy in the friendly in Milan on Friday. Khedira who also damaged another ligament in his right knee during the incident will undergo surgery.
Germany coach Joachim Loew admitted it was a setback but added he is optimistic the Real Madrid player will be fit when the World Cup starts.
Khedira’s international midfielder partner Bastian Schweinsteiger underwent surgery last week but is expected to return to action by the end of January.
