An Egyptian football player has been banned for allegedly showing a four-fingered hand gesture linked to supporters of ousted President Mohamed Morsi.
Ahmed Abdel Zaher was suspended by his club Al Ahli for showing the sign after scoring a goal in his side’s African Champions League final victory on Sunday.
The gesture was often used at anti-military protests following a crackdown on a pro-Mursi supporters in August in Cairo that killed hundreds of people.
Zaher is suspended until an investigation is completed.
An Egyptian Kung Fu champion was banned for two years last month for wearing a T-shirt with the four-finger sign on it.
