Blatter confirms Qatar to host

2022 World Cup with dates to be decided

FIFA president Sepp Blatter has insisted the 2022 World Cup will go ahead in Qatar alone.

Blatter clarified the situation via Twitter after he appeared to suggest that FIFA was willing to consider a co-hosted tournament.

Blatter claimed plans to change the dates of the event to avoid the extreme summer temperatures were still under discussion.

However a clash with the Winter Olympics in January and February is out of the question:
“We have together with the Olympic, the IOC, practically the same media, television and marketing partners and we cannot have two competitions at the same time. And it is logical to play this competition at the end of the year in November-December,” he said.

Last month, FIFA announced it would hold a consultation process involving clubs, leagues, players and federations to decide in which months of 2022 the tournament should be played.
