Two German citizens have been released from kidnappers in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley – but were then immediately arrested by police on drug trafficking charges, according to local media.

The two were reportedly freed on November 2, less than a day after being abducted by gunmen demanding a ransom for their release.

Drug cultivation and trafficking have long-flourished in Lebanon’s fertile Bekaa Valley, which is located in the east of the country on the border with Syria.
