The sunburst Fender Stratocaster that Bob Dylan played at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival is coming up for auction at Christie’s in New York where it could bring the equivalent of €300,000.
The festival marked the first time Dylan went electric, a defining moment that marked his move from acoustic folk to electric rock and roll.
Lyric fragments found inside the guitar case are also going under the hammer. The lyrics include “In the Darkness of Your Room,” and early draft of “Absolutely Sweet Marie” from Blonde on Blonde album and three songs from those 1965 album recording sessions that were not released until the 1980s: “Medicine Sunday”, “Jet Pilot” and “I Wanna Be Your Lover.”
The auction is scheduled for December 6.
