World Combat Games: Russia increase gold-medal haul


Islam Edisultanov added yet another gold to Russia’s haul when he won the men’s boxing under 67 kilo title at the World Combat Games in St Petersburg.

Edisultanov offered himself the perfect birthday present by beating Azerbaijan’s Elnur Suleymanov 3 rounds to nothing.

Joedison Teixeira took the under 64 kilo title after beating Ukraine’s Aleksandr Grechiha.

The 19-year-old outclassed his opponent and nearly sent him to the canvas in round three.

In what turned out to be a dominant display by the Brazilian Teixeira won gold by three rounds to nothing.

Sophia Nordeno handed Sweden their first gold at the second edition of the games.

Nordeno triumphed in the women’s Grappling Gi -64kg category.

The 24-year-old beat Poland’s Karolina Zawodnik five points to zero to cruise to the top of the podium.
