There was devastation and chaos in a suburb of Damascus this Friday when a car bomb exploded near a mosque. Graphic video footage – which cannot be independently verified – was first shared on Facebook and YouTube by Syrian activists.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, 20 people died, among them three children. Dozens have been wounded.
The bomb exploded in the town of Suq Wadi Barada, about 45 kilometres outside Damascus. The town is controlled by the rebels but troops – loyal to Syrian President Bashar Al Assad – police its outskirts.
