Bolshoi Ballet dancer Pavel Dmitrichenko has gone on trial over an attack on the company’s artistic director.
Sergei Filin’s eyesight was badly damaged by sulphuric acid outside his Moscow flat in January. He has now had over 20 operations.
The incident revealed deep tensions inside the world famous Russian ballet company. Filin has been accused of favouritism and of having the power to make or break careers.
Dmitrichenko admitted organising an attack but said he never wanted or sanctioned the use of acid.
He denies involvement but could face 12 years in prison if convicted.
