A Greek charity has received more than 8,000 calls following an appeal to discover the identity of a four year old girl found living in a Roma settlement in Greece.
DNA tests proved that the blonde haired, blue eyed girl known as Maria was found living with a couple who were not her biological parents.
The couple, who have been arrested, say they hope to find the adoptive mother to clear their names over abduction charges. The pair will appear in court on Monday. The authorities hope the publicity surrounding their appearance will help bring forward people who can provide more information on the girl’s identity.
