"Vatileaks" Cardinal hands over his job to a reformer


The cardinal widely blamed for failing to prevent a series of ethical and financial scandals during the reign of former Pope Benedict has stepped down.

Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone has handed his post as secretary of state to Archbishop Pietro Parolin. The new number two at the Vatican is a career diplomat and is seen as a reformer.

Although Pope Francis has already introduced several changes at the Vatican, the appointment of his new secretary of state is being seen by some as his most significant administrative reform since his election last March.
