Thousands of Muslims observing the hajj hurled pebbles at three pillars, believed to represent the devil, in Mina, east of Mecca. It is part of the “stoning of the devil” ritual that marks the end of the pilgrimage.

The Hajj is an Islamic pilgrimage and the largest annual gathering of Muslims. Every observer of Islam, who is able-bodied and can afford to do so, has a duty to complete it at least once.
