California wine region finds new fame with giant pumpkins
Napa Valley in the US state of California has always been fertile land for growing its famous grapes used for wine-making. But an altogether larger fruit has made headlines in the region this week.
The top three winners in Monday’s 40th annual World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off in Half Moon Bay, California are from the Napa Valley.
The winning pumpkin topped the scales at 1,985 pounds (900 kilograms).
