Original art works by street artist Banksy have been sold from a stall in New York’s Central park for 60 dollars (44 euros) each.
The artist said he “wanted to make some art without the price tag attached.”
Most people walked past the stall, unaware of what it was selling. However three people did stop to buy some canvasses.
They will now have a small fortune on their hands. The art works are estimated to be worth 20 thousand dollars (14,800 euros.)
The artist who comes from Bristol in the UK, and whose identity is a secret, has a month’s residency in New York where he says he will create a new piece of art, whether graffiti or a street sculpture every day.
The owner of a building in Queens where Banksy had drawn one of his pieces of street art, and who had to told by her grandaughter who Banksy was, said she was delighted. Maria Bougdanos told reporters: “I wish I could meet him in person to congratulate him because he’s giving fame to my building.”
Anyone hoping for another chance to buy some cut price Banksys will be disappointed. The artist posted afterwards on his website “this was a one off.”
