Russia: all 30 Greenpeace activists charged with 'piracy'

A group of 30 Greenpeace activists have been charged with piracy in Russia – for staging a protest on a production platform run by energy giant Gazprom.

They face jail sentences of up to 15 years.Twenty six of those detained are foreigners.

Anne Mie Roer Jensen is Danish. Her lawyer Aleksandra Ostrovskaya said her client had little idea why she is being held.

“None of the documents have been translated into Danish so far. This is a severe breach of normal practice, for a person to be arrested, and not understand why,” Ostrovskaya told reports.
