Champions League: United suffer stalemate in Ukraine

Manchester United let slip a one nil lead against Shakhtar Donetsk in the final 15 minutes of their Champions League Group A game to draw one all with the Ukrainians at the Donbass Arena on Wednesday.

Three-times champions United, missing the injured Wayne Rooney but with Robin van Persie back in attack, went ahead after 18 minutes when Marouane Fellaini pulled the ball back for Danny Welbeck to stab home from close range after defender Jaroslav Rakitskiy failed to clear.

But 15 minutes from time Rakitskiy made amends when his forceful run and cross on the left was only half cleared by Nemanja Vidic and Taison crashed the ball home.

The result gives United and Shakhtar four points each at the top of Group A. Bayer Leverkusen are third with three points after a 2-1 home win over Real Sociedad.

Elsewhere on matchday two Umut Bulut scored with two minutes remaining as Turkish Champions Galatasaray salvaged a 2-2 draw with Juventus in Group B.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Angel Di Maria both struck twice to help nine times champions and leaders Real Madrid beat FC Copenhagen 4-0.

Sweden international Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored twice as big-spending Paris Saint Germain continued their winning start to Group C with a 3-0 victory over Benfica.

The Greeks of Olympiakos beat Anderlecht by the same scoreline to pick up their first points of the campaign.

Franck Ribéry, Thomas Müller and Arjen Robben were all on target as defending champions and Group D leaders Bayern Munich outclassed Manchester City with a 3-1 win at the Etihad Stadium.

CSKA Moscow meanwhile beat bottom club Viktoria Plzen 3-2 in the Russian capital.
