Canada’s Milos Raonic celebrated his fifth career ATP tour title on Sunday when he beat top seed Tomas Berdych to claim the Thailand Open in Bangkok.
The 22-year-old from Thornhill, Ontario won a tight first set courtesy of a tiebreak.
But he faced less resistance in the second en route to winning it 6-3.
Raonic was unstoppable on his service game bombing down 18 aces to his opponent’s four. He saved the only break point he faced and won 95 per cent of first serve points.
He prevailed in oner hour and 17 minutes to capture his second title of the season following a third straight win in San Jose in February.
The victory was a major boost to his hopes of making the lucrative season-ending World Tour Finals. He moves to 11th in the race to London which will feature only the top eight players.
