Suicide bombers have struck in Iraq. At least 25 people are reported to have been killed in an explosion in a Shi’ite Muslim mosque in Al Mussayab south of the capital Baghdad. In Arbil six members of the security forces have died.
The charred remains of at least two of car bombs could be seen in Arbil which is the capital of Iraq’s autonomous Kurdistan region. Sources said gunfire was heard after the explosions outside the security forces headquarters. Five suicide bombers were killed before they were able to detonate themselves according to officials.
The attacks are the first in the past six years in what is known to be a stable part of Iraq. No group has claimed responsibility.
