The Italian government has been plunged into crisis as ministers of ex-Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s PDL party in the coalition government have resigned. The announcement came from the vice-president of the Council Angelino Alfano.
Berlusconi himself called for them to resign after this own Senate seat was threatened following a conviction for fraud.
It’s unclear at this stage how Prime Minister Enrico Letta will respond, as he himself threatened to resign over key budgetary measures he will put to a vote of confidence next week.
