The United States and Russia have reached an agreement on a draft UN Security Council resolution that would demand the destruction of Syria’s chemical weapons arsenal.
Speaking after the meeting the US Secretary of State, John Kerry said:
“I was pleased to have a meeting with (Russian) Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. We did reach an agreement with respect to the resolution. We’re now doing the final work on pulling that language together.”
Last week Damascus met the first deadline of the disarmament deal that demands the total elimination of chemical weapons by April next year.
The agreement ends a two-and-a-half year deadlock over Syria.
