Dozens of luxury hotel chambermaids hit the streets in Paris to protest over low wages and working conditions.
Chambermaids say they want salaries that better correspond with the high-end hotels they work in.
Their strike action coincided with the start of Paris Fashion Week, being held nearby at Park Hyatt hotel.
Claude Levy, the union representative for the chambermaids, said hotel guests in the capital for the fashion extravaganza were shocked when the heard about the wages.
She said: “Rich clients hear the noise, see the atmosphere when they get out, we inform them and actually we had positive reactions.
“Some famous people have told us, ‘how can you be paid €800 (monthly) when we are paying €16,000 for a suite?’”
