One police officer has been killed following clashes between Egyptian security forces and suspected militants.
The victim was shot dead as a gunbattle broke out after police tried to reassert control over Kerdasa, an
Islamist-dominated area where militants staged a bloody attack.

It is the second operation this week to retake an area where Islamist sympathies run deep and hostility to the authorities has grown since the army deposed
President Mohamed Mursi in July.
Police say they are hunting around 140 suspects. Last week militants attacked the town’s police station killing 11 officers.
It came in the wake of a move to clear out a pro-Mursi protest camp in Cairo which left hundreds of his supporters dead.
