Senior Afghan Taliban leader to be released

Pakistan is to release the former number two and founder of the Afghan Taliban movement, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar.

The move is to help the Afghan peace process. Mullah Baradar’s capture in 2010 was seen as a coup for the American CIA.

Some 26 Taliban detainees have been freed during the past year.
