Indian rapists found guilty, sentencing on Friday

The remaining four suspects in the New Delhi bus rape trial have been found guilty of rape and murder, and could face the death penalty.

Sentencing will take place on Friday said the judge presiding in the case after the verdict was delivered.

The ringleader in the attack hanged himself in his cell, and the gang’s juvenile member was sentenced earlier this month, escaping the death penalty.

The prosecution has demanded the death penalty for the four men, and there are some who feel the juvenile was lucky to escape hanging.

“Rapists should be given the death sentence because then only they will learn that such types of crimes are awful and they will stop,” said one local man following the trial.

The minimum sentence for the crime in India is life imprisonment. Death is reserved for the rarest cases, and even then executions are rarely carried out. But many shocked Indians are calling for an example to be made of this crime.
