Amsterdam shuts down 120 illegal hotels

The authorities in Amsterdam say they have closed down 120 illegal hotels since the start of the year.

They stepped up the clampdown over the summer tourist season. In June 2012 two Lithuanians died in a fire at a hotel which did not meet safety standards.

Many hotels are said to be overcrowded, with complaints of noisy and drunken tourists.
