Switzerland’s Fabian Cancellara produced yet another flawless run to claim the 11th stage of the Vuelta a Espana on Wednesday, a thrilling 38.8km hilly time trial starting and finishing in Tarazona.
The former world and Olympic time trial champion proved too strong for his opponents and eventually crossed the finish line in an impressive time of 51 minutes, 37 seconds ahead of Germany’s Tony Martin with Italy’s Domenico Pozzovivo completing the podium.
Astana’s Vincenzo Nibali clocked the fourth fastest time to regain the overall lead while Ireland’s Nicolas Roche moved up to second after finishing the time trial in sixth place.
