At least 49 people have reportedly been killed and more than 120 others injured by a series of car bombings across the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.
The devices went off in mainly Shi’ite districts. Authorities say it is unclear who carried out the attacks but Sunni Islamist militants have been regaining momentum in their insurgency against the Shi’ite led government.
About 800 Iraqis were killed in August, according to the
United Nations, with more than a third of the deadly attacks in Baghdad.
