The Syrian government has dismissed US accusations that it was behind a chemical weapons attack, saying claims made by Secretary of State John Kerry are based on “lies.”
Kerry has slammed Damascus, alleging that it was responsible for the deaths of nearly 1,500 people outside the capital 10 days ago.
In a statement read out on state television, the Syrian foreign ministry said the evidence presented by Kerry was dependent on information put forward by terrorists more than a week ago.
It said the details contained fabrications, lies and false allegations.
Kerry has called Syrian President Bashar al-Assad “a thug and a murderer.”
Damascus says his charges are a “desperate attempt” to justify a military strike.
