Firefighters are confident that favourable weather conditions will help in the battle against the huge Sierra Nevada wildfire, which been devouring the forests of California since August 17.
Such is the magnitude of the blaze drones have been employed to monitor the flames and relay information back to the emergency services
Jeremy Salizzoni from the San Diego Fire Departmen explained how they are used: “This is a very remote fire, a very large fire; so the ability to see all sides is virtually impossible. And using this platform we’ve been able to see the perimeter with accurate information, with very little effort.”
The fire has not only destroyed precious woodland, the local economy has also been hit hard with thousands of tourists opting not to travel to the Yosemite National Park for the Labour Day weekend, the last mass exodus of the summer.
