CAS upholds Besiktas ban

The Court of Arbitration for Sport on Friday upheld UEFA’s one-year ban on Turkish side Besiktas which will see the club excluded from the Europa League this season.

The 13-times league champions were initially banned by UEFA after allegations of match-fixing in their 2011 Turkish Cup final victory.

Norwegian club Tromso will replace Besiktas in the Europa league despite losing to the Turks in Thursday’s play-off.

It’s yet another bow to struggling Turkish football which saw Fenerbache recently fail in their bid to overturn a two-year European ban also for match-fixing.
