A low-budget Olympic bid has been submitted by Madrid in the hope of winning the right to host the 2020 Games.
The Spanish capital, bidding for a third consecutive time after failing to land the 2012 and 2016 editions, faces tough competition from Istanbul and Tokyo with both cities showing great potential.
The Japanese bid received the highest praise in a preliminary IOC technical report last year while Istanbul remains highly attractive because it would mark the first Games in a country with a predominantly Muslim population.
Madrid has recently built new facilities and refurbished existing ones. Venues such as the Bernabeu stadium would be used for the football finals while the bullring ‘Las Ventas’ could make a unique basketball arena.
The International Olympic Committee will select the host city in Argentina on September 7.
