Hollywood actor and Oscar winning director Ben Affleck is to be the new Batman. He is the eighth actor to take on the role of the caped crusader but this time he will be sharing screen time with Superman.
The 41-year-old will appear in the ‘Man of Steel’ sequel where he will star opposite a Superman 11 years his junior – British actor Henry Cavill.
“It’s beyond mythological to have Superman and our new Batman facing off, since they are the greatest super heroes in the world,” director Zack Snyder said about his film, which is due to be released in 2015.
Affleck joins a list of actors who have played Batman, including Michael Keaton, George Clooney and most recently Christian Bale in Christopher Nolan’s ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy.
“We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics’ most enduringly popular super heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some. His outstanding career is a testament to his talent and we know he and Zack will bring new dimension to the duality of this character,” Greg Silverman, president of creative development at Warner Bros Pictures said.
