Italian police hunt escaped migrants in Sicily

More than 1,000 migrants have arrived in Sicily over the past two days.

Police say many of them have escaped from the detention camps and a major search is underway.

Most of them brave the journey from Africa in overcrowded and flimsy vessels.

Officials say as many as 9,000 immigrants have arrived on Italian soil between July 1 and August 10 this year.
