With the European Union’s Sunday announcement that it is to “re-examine” relations with Egypt following the bloody repression of the Muslim Brotherhood ringing in his ears, the Foreign Minister has hit back at the critics. Now is not the time to judge, he says.
“The financial aid to Egypt it is very commendable and it did not go down the drain or was wasted. We hope that Egypt will continue to get this aid. But any mention of cutting off financial aid to Egypt and specifically during this period is totally unacceptable,” said Nabil Fahmy.
Egypt has reopened banks and the stock exchange as a statement the country is moving again, but multinationals like Electrolux, General Motors and Royal Dutch Shell have suspended operations, while German retailer Metro reopened today.
