A German tourist has died in a crash between a gondola and ferry on Venice’s Grand Canal.
Joachim Reinhard Vogel, 50, was a university professor from Munich.
Vogel’s three-year-old daughter was seriously hurt in the accident and is being treated for a head injury at a hospital in Padua.
Describing what happened, one witness said: “The gondola was dragged along for 50 to 60 metres, then it stopped, but the impact was terrible.”
Vogel was crushed between the two boats near the historic city’s famous Rialto bridge.
Two years ago, four Spanish tourists were thrown into the canal after their gondola was hit by a motorboat.
