The Spanish co-founder of clothing and retail giant Inditex, which includes the Zara brand, has died. Rosalia Mera, who was 69, suffered a stroke while on vacation on the Mediterranean island of Menorca.
She died at a hospital in La Coruna, the city where she was born in Spain’s Galicia region.
According to Forbes magazine, her wealth totalled 4.7 billion euros.
Mera, who left school to become a seamstress, built Inditex from scratch with her then-husband Amancio Ortega, designing dressing gowns and lingerie in their living room.
The couple divorced and she held onto 5.1 percent of Inditex.
