At least 24 inmates of a prison in northwest Chile were injured when it was was engulfed in flames following a riot.
The facility’s director blamed some of the prisoners for the blaze who began burning their mattresses and other objects after getting into a brawl.
Outside the prison family members called on firefighters to move more swiftly to get their loved ones out.
The fire was eventually extinguished after all 550 inmates were moved to a separate security area.
Injured prisoners were treated for smoke inhalation while at least five had cuts sustained in the riot.
The blaze has brought back memories of a 2010 prison fire in Santiago which killed 81 people.
