Paedophile Daniel Galvan Vina has been arrested in the south-eastern region of Murcia. He had returned to Spain after being pardoned in Morocco where he was serving a 30-year-sentence.
Galvan will be taken to Madrid where one of the country’s top courts will deal with the next move in the controversy which began when he was granted a royal pardon.
King Juan Carlos requested the release of 48 Spanish convicts when he visited the north African kingdom last month. Galvan who was one of them had served two years of his prison term for raping and filming at least 11 children aged four to 15. King Mohamed VI has since said he did not know the gravity of the crimes when the pardon was issued.
Dozens of people were injured in violent clashes between police and protesters who were angry that Galvan had been allowed out of jail. An investigation has been launched while King Mohamed has sacked the head of prisons and rescinded the pardon.
