Pieter Weening was all smiles on top of the podium on Saturday after winning the Tour of Poland for his biggest career triumph to date.
The Dutchman started the seventh and final stage – a 37 kilometre individual time trial to Krakow – fifth overall and 27 seconds down on race leader Christophe Riblon.
However the Orica GreenEdge rider managed to overhaul the Frenchman with a sixth place finish to claim the title by 13 seconds over Spaniard Jon Izagirre.
Britain’s Bradley Wiggins celebrated his return to the road by winning the final stage time trial.
The Team Sky rider, who was unable to defend his Tour de France title this year due to a knee injury, crossed over just under a minute clear of RadioShack’s Fabian Cancellara of Switzerland.
