Vatican bank launches website in transparency effort

The Vatican bank has launched a website as part of efforts to improve its image.

The move comes in the wake of a series of scandals and ongoing criticism for its lack of transparency.

The bank has also announced it will publish its annual report for the first time in October.

Bank President Ernst von Freyberg told Vatican Radio the site would provide information “on our reforms and the things we do in the world and how we support the Church and its mission and charitable works”.

The bank, formally known as the Institute for Works of Religion (IOR), has been the target of several investigations by Italian magistrates.

The European anti-money laundering committee Moneyval said last year it fell short of international transparency standards.
