Washington dinner date launches resumption of Middle East peace talks

“A very special moment” said US Secretary of State John Kerry as he sat down to dinner with Israeli and Palestinian negotiators in Washington to resume Middle East peace talks.

President Obama has warned both sides will have to make some hard choices if progress is to be made after a three year gap in any meaningful discussions.

The talks about talks follow Israel’s release of more than 100 Palestinian prisoners – a gesture met by anger and dismay by Israeli families of some of the victims who have died in Palestinian attacks.
.
There was anger too in Ramallah where Palestinians have called for Israel to vacate land they occupied during the 1967 Israel – Palestinian war before agreeing to any talk of peace.
