With a host of players absent through injury, Nadine Kessler’s team-mates remained solid in defense and held on as team captain Nadine Angerer saved two penalties to secure a hard-fought win.
Germany have now won every tournament since downing Sweden 3-2 in the European Championship final in Kaiserslautern in 1995.
