The eurozone just got some good news. Private industry in the monetary union expanded for the first time in more than a year, boosting hopes that the single currency area could be heading out of recession.
Business is trying to cope with the recession as well. Telefonica plans to expand to be more competitive by buying the E-Plus unit of Dutch group KPN. That would make it Germany’s biggest mobile-phone operator in terms of customers. Lots of them may be using iPhones, and Apple’s latest quarterly results show sales of its smart-phones jumped significantly, but its profit didn’t.
