Ariel Castro, the man accused of raping and holding three women captive in his Ohio home has agreed to a plea deal which means he will spend the rest of his life behind bars.
In the courtroom in Cleveland, Ohio, the judge said that he will be imprisoned for life without parole.
The plea deal means an extra 1,000 years were added to his prison sentence but that he avoids the death penalty. It also means that the victims will not have to testify in court.
The 53-year-old was arrested in May after one of the women escaped. Castro was charged with 977 counts, including two for aggravated murder for beating a woman until she miscarried.
The women were said to be relieved by the verdict but asked for their privacy to be respected.
