European Championship bronze medallist Bernadette Graf edged out Japan’s Chizuru Arai to take gold in the women’s under 70 kilo category at the Judo Grand Slam in Moscow on Sunday.
The Austrian downed her opponent by Yuko while Hungary’s Abigel Joo stunned Brazil’s Mayra Aguiar with a well taken seoi-nage in the dying moments of the bout to clinch the under 78 kilo category.
In the men’s event, Miami Grand Prix silver medallist Grigorii Sulemin outclassed Uzbekistan’s Erkin Doniyorov in the final of the under 90 kilo class to secure a hard fought win, preventing his young opponent from triumphing in his first international event.
In the final of the under 100 kilo category, Javad Mahjoub proved too strong for defending champion Ramziddin Sayidov. The bronze medals were won by Germany’s Dimitri Peters and Kazakhstan’s Maxim Rakov.
