Brazil’s Sarah Menezes continued her good run of form with yet another gold medal at the Judo Grand Slam in Moscow on Saturday.
The defending champion, who took top honours at the London Olympics, edged out Mongolia’s Otgontsetseg Galbadrakh by way of two shido scores in the final, giving the 23 year old a major boost ahead of the World Championships, which kick off in Rio de Janeiro next month.
Georgia’s Amiran Papinashvili was up against Olympic bronze medallist Felipe Kitadai in the men’s under 60 kilo final.
The 23 year old piled on the pressure from the start with Kitadai fending off the attacks time after time, until a superb hane-goshi ended Brazilian hopes.
Belgium’s Dirk Van Dichelt denied the crowd a home winner as he outclassed Denis Iartcev in the dying moments of the bout with a well taken yuko.
The bronze medals were won by Uzbekistan’s Navruz Jurakobilov and Georgia’s Zebeda Rekhviashvili.
