The body of a man found in northern Mali has been formally identified as that of French hostage Phillipe Verdon, according to a statement from French President François Hollande.
Verdon was abducted along with a business colleague, Serge Lazarevic, from their hotel in the northern Mali town of Hombori in November 2011.
Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb claims to have executed him in response to France’s military intervention in Mali.
