World Judo Masters: Sanjaasuren takes gold

Local hope Miyaragchaa Sanjaasuren produced a stunning performance to take gold in the under 66 kilo category on day one of the World Judo Masters in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia on Saturday.

Sanjaasuren downed South Korea’s Cho Jun-Ho in the final with an ippon in the dying moments while compatriot Nyam-Ochir Sainjargal edged out Olympic bronze medallist Tsagaanbaatar Khashbaatar to secure the under 73 kilo class.

The bronze medals were won by Israel’s Golan Pollack and world number one Tumurkhuleg Davaadorj.

In the women’s event, Urantsetseg Munkhbat had the home crowd on their feet again when she beat Baku Grand Slam silver medallist Otgontsetseg Galbadrakh to take gold in the under 48 kilo category.

In the under 57 kilo class, Mongolia’s Sumiya Dorjsuren proved unstoppable en route to the top of the podium and struck early on in the final contest with this clinical ippon, leaving her opponent Jan-Di KIM of South Korea down and out.
