Saturday marked the 30th straight day of anti-government demonstrations in Bulgaria calling for the socialist-led cabinet to step down. So far, the government have not responded or resigned.
The protests were originally triggered by the controversial appointment of media business owner Delyan Peevski as the new head of the State Agency for National Security. Public anger eventually led to his removal but the demonstrations have continued daily.
On Monday, the Ambassadors of Germany and France to Bulgaria supported the protesters by issuing a joint statement. It stresses that the voice of civil society must be heard and warns that the oligarchic model is not compatible with EU membership.
