Police and students have clashed at Athens University after authorities entered the building to break up a campus protest.
Protesters heckled police as they entered the university to arrest workers and students who had interrupted a meeting of the newly installed administration team.
University employee Zacharias Trigazis, who witnessed the events, said: “We don’t know how or why the police came, but without reason, the police came in and began detaining people at random, people walking by the university, tourists sitting on the steps”.
Around 150 students were involved in the protest with 31 taken into custody. Police used pepper spray as protesters attempted to stop authorities from making arrests.
